NASA has sworn in Matt Anderson as the agency’s 16th deputy administrator, with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman administering the oath at a ceremony at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington on May 21.

NASA said Anderson will help lead the agency’s efforts to carry out the President’s national space policy and support NASA’s work across exploration, science and aeronautics.

“Matt Anderson brings exactly the kind of operational leadership, technical expertise, and mission focus NASA needs right now,” Isaacman said, citing Anderson’s experience across the U.S. Air Force, Space Command and the aerospace industry.

Anderson said his focus would include “disciplined execution, technical excellence, and a strong culture of accountability.” He also said he was “grateful to President Trump” for the nomination.

NASA Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya said Anderson had led “in complex operational environments” and pointed to the role of “trust in the people doing the work” in mission success.

Anderson was nominated by President Donald J. Trump on Jan. 13 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 18, NASA said.

Anderson’s biography is available on NASA’s website: https://www.nasa.gov/people/matt-anderson/
