Australian school students will send postcards to space on board a rocket due to lift off from Southern Launch’s Koonibba Test Range on April 29, 2024.

Space educator One Giant Leap Australia Foundation, Hylmpulse and Yuri invited students to design postcards that will go to space on board the inaugural launch of HyImpulse’s SR75 rocket.

The collaboration is part of an industry-wide effort to engage young people with the space industry as a viable industry and career path for their futures.

“This project is all about engaging young people with space and STEM and opening their eyes to the possibilities of the space industry,” said Jackie Carpenter, Director of One Giant Leap Australia Foundation.

The flight itself will qualify the company’s hybrid propulsion technology, which will be the core building block of their orbital launch vehicle, SL1.

The sub-orbital mission will reach 50 kilometres in height before parachuting back to land and being recovered by HyImpulse and Southern Launch.

The Koonibba Test Range is a partnership between Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation and Southern Launch and provides customers with the opportunity to launch and recover rocket and satellite technologies.
