Recognising the key shifts in today’s global security landscape and how digitalisation and dual-use technologies play a key role at the Singapore Defence Technology Summit (Tech Summit) 2023. Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) will be hosting this Tech Summit, the fourth since its inception, at Shangri-La Singapore from 22 – 24 March 2023.

“Cutting-edge and innovative technology continue to shape conflict, and affect the balance of power between states. Digital and dual-use technologies, in particular, are undergoing a continued revolution, characterised by the rapid development and widespread availability of new technologies that have civilian or military applications,” said Singapore’s Senior Minister State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad during his welcome remarks at Tech Summit 2023’s opening dinner. “Over the next few days, I encourage tech leaders, industry captains and professionals to discuss the implications of these shifts in technology, and how they may apply to defence and security, whether in prosecuting or preventing conflicts,” he added.

This year’s theme, Digital and Dual-use Technologies – Opportunities and Threats, spurs discussions centred around the technology lessons learnt from recent conflicts, ways to mitigate defence supply chain risks, the impact of the digitalisation wave and what these mean for the future of defence and warfighters, as well as how the emergence of dual-use technologies will lead to new commercial-military partnerships and reshape defence ecosystems.

The dynamic line-up of conversations includes the Fireside Chat with Mr Bill McDermott, President and Chief Executive Officer of ServiceNow, and General Paul M. Nakasone, United States Army, Commander, United States Cyber Command, Director, National Security Agency / Chief, Central Security Service.

DSTA’s Deputy Chief Executive (Operations) and Chairman of the Tech Summit Organising Committee, Mr Roy Chan, said: “The Tech Summit set out with an ambition to become a world-class platform to bring together thought leaders from government, industry, academia, and think tanks across the globe to network, share different ideas and viewpoints, and collaborate in the development of technology to confront future challenges in defence and security. Tech Summit 2023 purposefully incorporates different elements – from government leader remarks, fireside chats and plenary sessions, tech demos and a tech showcase area, as well as networking events and site visits – to facilitate meaningful engagements and outcomes. This year’s strong showing once again demonstrated that the Tech Summit continues to draw great interest from the world’s leading defence and security practitioners, senior government officials and distinguished academia.”
