Elcome and Amazon ink connectivity agreement

Maritime connectivity provider ELCOME has signed an authorised reseller agreement with Amazon Leo, expanding its satellite communications portfolio to include low Earth orbit (LEO) services for commercial maritime operators.
Under the agreement, ELCOME will offer Amazon Leo connectivity to vessels operating across major global shipping routes, including merchant shipping, offshore service vessels, commercial fishing fleets and yachts. The move adds a new LEO-based connectivity option to ELCOME’s existing maritime communications footprint, which spans more than 5,000 vessels worldwide.
The introduction of Amazon Leo terminals provides maritime operators with an additional, independent satellite pathway, increasing network resilience and redundancy at sea. As demand grows for always-on connectivity to support digital operations, remote monitoring and real-time data exchange, operators are increasingly looking beyond single-orbit satellite architectures.
Low Earth orbit satellite systems are designed to deliver lower latency and higher throughput than traditional geostationary services, enabling applications such as real-time telemetry, remote operations and hybrid network architectures that combine multiple satellite and terrestrial links. For maritime users, this can translate into more consistent performance for operational systems as well as crew welfare services.
ELCOME’s role under the agreement includes deployment, integration and support of Amazon Leo terminals, drawing on its global engineering presence and round-the-clock maritime support operations. The company has historically focused on integrating satellite connectivity into vessels operating in challenging maritime environments, where antenna performance and system reliability are critical.
The agreement comes as competition intensifies in the maritime satellite communications market, with multiple LEO constellations targeting shipping and offshore sectors. Operators are increasingly adopting multi-orbit strategies to reduce dependency on any single provider and improve service continuity across different regions and operating conditions.
While large-scale deployment of Amazon Leo’s constellation is still progressing, partnerships such as this indicate growing confidence among maritime service providers that LEO connectivity will play a central role in the next phase of digital maritime operations.
For ELCOME, the addition of Amazon Leo broadens its connectivity portfolio and positions the company to support fleets seeking greater flexibility, redundancy and performance as satellite communications architectures continue to evolve.
