HII has been awarded a place on the Missile Defense Agency’s Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense (SHIELD) contract, an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity agreement with a ceiling value of US$151 billion.
The SHIELD enterprise contract is designed to accelerate the development and fielding of advanced homeland missile defence capabilities by enabling rapid competition and delivery of innovative solutions to the warfighter. It spans a broad range of mission areas intended to increase speed, agility and integration across the Missile Defense Agency’s programs.
For HII, the award creates opportunities for its Mission Technologies division to advance solutions across directed energy, command-and-control system integration, data and cyber operations, microelectronics, spectrum management, live, virtual and constructive training environments, as well as logistics and sustainment. The company said these areas align closely with Mission Technologies’ existing portfolio and technical expertise.
Andy Green, executive vice president of HII and president of Mission Technologies, said the award reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting US homeland defence objectives and advancing national security. He described SHIELD as a critical element of the current vision for layered homeland defence and said HII is positioned to contribute capabilities in areas such as directed energy, microelectronics and systems integration.
The SHIELD IDIQ contract provides a long-term framework for the Missile Defense Agency to engage industry partners as requirements evolve, supporting rapid prototyping, integration and deployment of next-generation defensive systems in response to emerging threats.
