Preparations are underway for the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2026), with organisers calling for contributions as the global space community looks ahead to its annual gathering later this year.
IAC 2026 will take place from 5–9 October 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye, bringing together space agencies, industry, researchers and policymakers from around the world. The congress will be held under the theme “The World Needs More Space,” which reflects a focus on expanding international cooperation and addressing the growing role of space in economic, scientific and societal development.
As part of the program development process, the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) has opened submissions for both Special Sessions and Technical Sessions.
Special Sessions are intended to support interactive and collaborative formats rather than traditional panel discussions. Organisers are seeking proposals for workshops, design sprints, and other participatory session types that encourage dialogue and practical engagement. Proposals for Special Sessions must be submitted by 6 February 2026.
In parallel, abstract submissions are open for Technical Sessions and Interactive Presentations. Contributors are invited to submit original, unpublished work in the form of a 400-word abstract. Accepted papers will be presented across more than 200 sessions covering five broad technical categories. The deadline for abstract submissions is 28 February 2026.
The IAC has long served as a forum for sharing research, policy perspectives and operational experience across the space sector. With activity accelerating in areas such as lunar exploration, commercial launch, space sustainability and Earth observation, the 2026 congress is expected to reflect both the expanding scope of space activity and the increasing diversity of participants involved.
