In an announcement to its members, the Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA) revealed last Friday that it has officially entered liquidation, effective Thursday, 21 August 2025. The statement, titled “Liquidation-Final,” expressed deep regret but underscores that the decision was unavoidable after exhaustive efforts involving administrators and the geospatial community to salvage the organisation.
After months under voluntary administration—initiated in late May amid cashflow stress, property settlement delays involving Surveyors House, and underwhelming event returns—GCA has now shifted to full liquidation.
GCA has long served as the cohesive force behind Australia’s geospatial profession—championing standards, connectivity, and innovation across sectors including emerging technologies like AI, digital twins, and geospatial analytics
Its liquidation now mirrors a broader existential crisis faced by many not-for-profit associations: can they sustain in a landscape marked by rising costs and volatile revenue streams.
