Netherlands based Solidflow has signed a memorandum of understanding at IAC Sydney to establish an Australian footprint for its Cool Gas Generator (CGG) technology. This pressure-less, leak-free solid-state gas storage is designed for mission-critical use in space and defence.
The agreement between Solidflow (Berry Sanders, Toby Sap), Spacelink Consulting (Frank Papa) and Advier Australia (Minze Walvius) initiates a pathway to a joint venture for Australian product development and manufacturing of tailored CGGs.
The signing took place at the European Space Agency (ESA) pavilion and was welcomed by Enrico Palermo (Australian Space Agency), Harm van de Wetering (Netherlands Space Office) SO), Luca del Monte (ESA) and Hugo Klijn (Consul-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands). Solidflow’s route to Australia followed its selection as a winner in ESA’s EPIC European–Australian Space Startup Competition.
CGGs store gases in a chemically bound, solid matrix, releasing on demand within milliseconds. Current products include oxygen, carbon dioxide and hydrogen, with additional gases in development.
Operational advantages
- Pressure-less storage (no high-pressure cylinders)
- No leakage, long shelf life, low signature
- Rugged and maintenance-free for harsh environments
- Instant, metered gas delivery for precise duty cycles
Space use-cases
- Tank pressurisation and reaction control system (RCS) /thruster purges
- Inflatables/structures and habitat environmental control and life support system (ECLSS) contingencies
- Payload purge & inerting during integration and launch
Defence & civil use-cases
- Emergency O₂ and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN)/fire suppression modules
- Autonomous systems in remote/austere theatres
- Mining/medtech deployments where logistics and safety are critical
Australia’s dispersed operations, growing launch & spacecraft ecosystem, and Defence’s need for reliable, low-maintenance gas systems make CGGs a strong fit for remote logistics, sovereign sustainment and space mission readiness.
This partnership will help drive innovation, resilience, and sustainable solutions in Australia.
