SD Government, a division of Gogo, has partnered with Diamond Aircraft Industries to equip the Hellenic Fire Service’s Diamond DA62 MPP fleet with advanced satellite communications capability.
Under the agreement, SD Government will provide a beyond-line-of-sight connectivity solution using the Gogo Plane Simple Ku-band (PSKu) antenna system operating on the SES FlexAir network. The tail-mounted terminal consists of two line-replaceable units, designed to simplify installation while supporting high-throughput airborne communications.
The connectivity upgrade supports the Hellenic Fire Service’s recently delivered fleet of three DA62 MPP aircraft acquired under Greece’s AEGIS national civil protection program. The DA62 MPP platform is configured for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and civil protection missions, including wildfire monitoring and disaster response.
Equipped with electro-optical, infrared and thermal sensors, the aircraft are designed to function as airborne command-and-control nodes. With endurance exceeding seven hours and a range of more than 1,500 kilometres, the DA62 MPP is intended to support wide-area monitoring and coordination during emergency operations.
Through SES’s global network, the FlexAir service provides managed aviation connectivity designed to support real-time video streaming, sensor data transmission and secure communications between aircraft and ground command centres. The system is intended to enable near real-time high-definition video transmission from the aircraft to operational teams on the ground.
The SATCOM configuration will be available from Diamond Aircraft as both a factory-installed option and as a retrofit for existing DA62 MPP aircraft. The aircraft’s modular mission system architecture allows integration of the PSKu system alongside various sensor payloads.
The companies said the partnership is aimed at enhancing communications resilience for civil protection and special mission operators operating in demanding environments.
