PowerPhotonic has been selected as a winner of Scotland’s Pivot into Space programme, a national initiative designed to help companies from non-space sectors develop technologies for the rapidly expanding global space industry.
Delivered by Space Scotland and part-funded by the UK Space Agency, the programme supports companies in undertaking targeted research and development projects that demonstrate strong commercial potential for space applications.
Through the initiative, PowerPhotonic will apply its expertise in precision manufacturing to develop advanced solutions tailored to the stringent performance and reliability requirements of space systems.
Roy McBride, Director of Strategy and Growth at PowerPhotonic, said participation in the programme provides an opportunity to expand the company’s capabilities into the space sector.
“PowerPhotonic is excited to be working with Space Scotland to explore new opportunities and to develop technologies for space applications,” McBride said.
“Being part of the Pivot into Space Programme will allow us to unlock commercial opportunities and contribute to the progress and success of the growing space economy in Scotland.”
The Pivot into Space programme is designed to strengthen the space supply chain by connecting established advanced manufacturing and engineering companies with emerging space-sector opportunities.
Peter Young, Chair of Space Scotland, said companies like PowerPhotonic demonstrate the kind of capability needed to support the future growth of the sector.
“PowerPhotonic represents the kind of advanced manufacturing capability that is critical to the future of the space sector,” Young said.
“Scotland already has world-class expertise in precision engineering, and programmes like Pivot into Space help ensure that capability is connected directly to emerging space supply-chain opportunities.”
Scotland has positioned itself as a growing hub for the European space industry, particularly in small satellite manufacturing and space-enabled services. Initiatives such as Pivot into Space aim to broaden the sector’s industrial base by enabling companies from other high-technology fields to enter the space supply chain.
