Hex20’s Journey: Training Astronautical Teams to Flying Lunar Missions

0

At DefSat 2026 in New Delhi, we speak with Lloyd Jacob Lopez, Chief Global Officer at Hex20, reflecting on the company’s evolution from an early-stage Adelaide startup to a globally active space technology firm.

Since first appearing at the Australian Space Forum several years ago, Hex20 has expanded internationally with offices in the UAE, India, Taiwan and the United States. The company now works across satellite systems, training, mission support and international partnerships.

Lloyd also updates us on:

  • Hex20’s lunar mission partnership with ispace (Japan) and COSPAR
  • Plans to fly a satellite in lunar orbit in 2028–2029 focused on PNT and radiation monitoring
  • Collaboration with Taiwan’s National Central University
  • A training and hardware program developed for the UAE Space Agency in support of its asteroid mission
  • How education, curriculum development and capacity building opened global opportunities
  • The importance of having the right team alongside being in the right place at the right time

From hands-on booth startup to international mission partner, Hex20’s story reflects the accelerating growth of the global space economy — and the role Australian companies are playing within it.
