The IAF, organisers of the 2nd IAF Global Space Conference on Climate Change (GLOC 2026) have announced an overwhelming international response to the event’s Call for Abstracts, marking a major step forward in global climate resilience collaboration through space technology. A total of 319 abstracts from 59 countries have been submitted ahead of the conference, which will take place from 2–4 June 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The breadth of submissions spans advanced satellite systems, AI-powered climate modelling, and emerging sustainability frameworks. Early indications show that GLOC 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most diverse and influential gatherings focused on how space can drive real-world climate solutions.
India leads with 38 submissions, followed by Italy (30), Germany (21), Rwanda (20), the United Kingdom (20), Nigeria (19), the United States (16), Canada (13), Kenya (12), and Azerbaijan (11). The strong global turnout highlights growing recognition of space-enabled tools as essential components of climate adaptation and mitigation strategies.
African participation has been especially notable, with contributions from Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. These submissions reflect the continent’s rising leadership in leveraging space applications to support agriculture, manage natural disasters, strengthen urban resilience, and improve environmental monitoring.
GLOC 2026 will bring together researchers, policymakers, industry leaders and innovators to explore ways space-based technologies can drive practical climate action. Attendees will have the opportunity to share research, shape global sustainability strategies and connect with experts working at the intersection of climate science, space missions and resilience planning.
The conference will take place in Green City Kigali, a showcase for sustainable urban development, offering participants a firsthand look at Rwanda’s model for climate-conscious growth.
