Gilmour Space has received airspace management approval from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), according to a May 5, 2025, statement on Gilmour’s social media platforms.
Airspace management approval refers to the process by which CASA grants permission for specific activities within designated airspace. The approval process usually involves submitting a detailed application form, along with supporting documents like risk assessments and flight plans.
Queensland-based Gilmour Space has spent the best part of 18 months trying to secure final clearance for the maiden launch of its Eris 1 orbital rocket from its purpose-built Bown Spaceport.
A previous plan to launch in mid-March 2025 was derailed by Cyclone Alfred. Bureaucracy has also hampered Gilmour’s progress.
Subject to final clearance from the Australian Space Agency, Gilmour says it is targeting a launch window of no earlier than May 15, 2025, for the first test flight.
