Geospatial Council of Australia Goes Into Administration

The Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA) has filed for voluntary administration, saying it needed to do so to ensure the council’s long-term viability and ongoing service delivery.

“The GCA has recently faced a combination of challenges that have led us to this position, including continued delays in the settlement of Surveyors House in Canberra, as well as a lower-than-expected financial return from FIG Working Week + Locate25,” a May 27, 2025, statement reads.

“With the support of our members and the administrators (RSM Australia Partners), the GCA is committed to continuing operations throughout the administration process. We’re currently working alongside administrators to determine what services and events can continue, and we will advise our members as soon as possible.”

The Geospatial Council of Australia is the peak body representing the interests of organisations and individuals working in a range of occupations across the surveying, space and spatial sectors.

“Australia needs a relevant and skilled, digitally enabled, space and spatial industry workforce to be assured of a thriving industry in the immediate and emerging future,” the council says.

The GCA adds that it intends to emerge from the administration process “stronger, more focused, and better equipped to advocate for the critical role geospatial plays across Australia.”
