A New Chapter for the IAF Bureau

The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) has entered a new phase of leadership following the conclusion of the 2025 International Astronautical Congress (IAC), with the appointment of Gabriella Arrigo (pictured) as the organisation’s new President. The transition marks the beginning of a new chapter for the IAF Bureau, which plays a central role in guiding the direction, governance and long-term priorities of the Federation.
Arrigo, who currently serves as Director of the International Affairs Directorate at the Italian Space Agency (ASI), brings more than 35 years of experience in international space relations. She has been closely involved in multilateral partnerships, diplomatic engagement and international policy development throughout her career, positioning her as a prominent figure in the global space community.
Her presidency is guided by a vision rooted in the IAF’s historic mandate to support scientific exchange and collaboration regardless of geopolitical tensions. Arrigo’s agenda is organised around four key pillars aimed at strengthening global cooperation, advancing education and outreach, supporting innovation across the space sector, and enhancing the Federation’s role as a neutral platform for dialogue.
During the IAF General Assembly held in Sydney, members also elected four new Vice Presidents to join the Bureau, further expanding the leadership team that will oversee the Federation’s strategic direction in the coming years. The Bureau’s responsibilities include shaping policy priorities, supporting international engagement, and ensuring the IAF continues to serve as a bridge between governments, agencies, industry and academia.
The leadership renewal comes at a time of rapid growth and transformation within the global space sector, as new entrants, emerging technologies and expanding international partnerships reshape the landscape. The IAF’s incoming leadership is expected to play a significant role in advancing collaboration and maintaining the organisation’s long-standing commitment to open, inclusive scientific dialogue.
