Lockheed Martin Australia has won a contract extension to continue sustaining the Aegis Combat System in the Royal Australian Navy’s Hobart-class Guided Missile Destroyers. The period of this contract is to the end of 2025.
Under this 12-month contract, Lockheed Martin Australia’s Aegis team, based in Sydney, will continue to provide advanced naval combat systems engineering services, such as system updates, alignments, material condition assessments and more.
Sustainment support services are inclusive of the development and coordination of detailed design aspects of the combat system, and related artefacts, ensuring a coherent engineering baseline is maintained across the destroyers.
The contract extension ensures the ongoing development and delivery of the Aegis Sustainment Program, reinforcing Australia’s defence capabilities.
Acquired by the Commonwealth under foreign military sales arrangements with the United States, the Aegis Combat System benefits from continuous reach-back support to the US for in-service sustainment and capability development. Fielded on over 100 ships worldwide, Aegis is the world’s most advanced combat system, providing the Royal Australian Navy with the tactical edge to combat current and evolving threats.
Lockheed Martin Australia has steadily grown its sovereign Aegis maritime workforce to over 140 employees, dedicated to supporting both the fleet of Hobart-class destroyers and future Hunter-class frigates.
“This contract extension represents a significant milestone in our commitment to supporting the Royal Australian Navy and strengthening Australia’s sovereign defence capabilities,” said Lockheed Martin ANZ CEO Warren McDonald. “Since 2020, we have had the privilege of working closely with the Navy to ensure operational readiness while steadily growing the Aegis industrial base. We look forward to building on that strong foundation with the Navy.”
